Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi stated that the people in Somaliland are not ready to fight each other, despite the mobilization of rebels in Ga’an Libax Mountain.
During a forum where a book about the former President of Somaliland, Ahmed Silanyo, was presented, President Bihi addressed the issue on Sunday. He mentioned that the militias were not as threatening as portrayed on social media.
“I believe that there will be no problems, and it is no more than political rivalries that always emerge during elections. The situation is not as dire as reported on the radio, and the people are not ready to fight each other because they are peaceful. I promise you that,” assured the President.
President Bihi directed his words to officials from opposition parties at the forum, reassuring them that they could express their opposition and the government would not repress them.
Bihi further emphasized that the long-awaited election will take place soon.
However, a spokesman for the rebel, Ahmed Ali Haybe, claimed that the militia forces entered the mountains in response to President Bihi’s use of force against the opposition. Last Wednesday, the rebel kidnapped eight military officers and elders in the Goda-wayn district but later released them after several hours.
