Somali security forces seized a car filled with explosive devices following a security operation in the Dolow district of the Gedo region on Sunday, according to the local official.
The Dolow district commissioner, Mohamed Hussein Abdi, stated that security forces received a tip-off about the explosives-rigged vehicle, which enabled them to thwart the group’s planned attack.
The commissioner commended the security forces for their diligence and vigilance in bolstering overall security in the district as a massive anti-al Shabab operation is expected to begin in Jubbaland soon.
However, this incident occurred just a day after security forces discovered a landmine the group had planted on the main road in the Dhobley district of the Gedo region.
In recent months, the Somali government has intensified its military campaign against al-Shabab but has recently faced setbacks in the fight in central Somalia.
