Security forces have taken complete control of Hananbure village in the Galgaduud region, where rival clan militias have been fighting over the last few weeks.
The Galmudug regional state authorities have declared that the security forces are only permitted to carry weapons in the village to prevent further clashes between the two militias hailing from Adado and Dhusamareb towns. Several people have been killed in the recent inter-clan conflict.
Elders in the village have welcomed the government’s decision to reinstate peace in the area, which will facilitate the return of residents to the village.
Defense Minister Abdikhadir Mohamed Nur Jama and Minister of Interior Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi have accused the al-Shabab group of inciting inter-clan conflicts in various regions across the country.
They have emphasized that the group is channelling substantial resources into fueling conflicts in recently liberated areas, to divert the government and local forces from their ongoing military operations against the militants.
