Speaker Luqmaan Haji Muhammad of the Hirshabeelle regional parliament detailed an ambush on his convoy near Jowhar airport today that resulted in multiple casualties.
Haji reported unexpected gunfire targeting his vehicle, attributing the attack to the Danab forces — troops tasked with securing the airport. “It’s a devastating incident,” he stated. “To see our own security detail turn their weapons on us is deeply troubling. There are injuries among the parliamentarians and fatalities among our guards. We await the federal government’s response.”
The speaker has urgently called for the Somali Federal Government to address the assault by the Danab forces.
This violent outbreak caps off a series of clashes in Jowhar, including yesterday’s engagement between Danab soldiers and the Hirshabeelle Presidential Palace guards, which left one Danab soldier dead.
